Sophia Christine Voychehovski
Visualization Designer
Basic Information:
In the field since:
Officially since Sept 22, 2008. I began my career as a Product Designer – designing furniture, camping equipment, and large home appliances like refrigerators. I realized that what I liked most about the design work was getting into the user’s head – figuring out what people really want. Going even farther back, I was making-up my own games and toys since I was five!
Hometown:
Chattanooga, TN
Homelife:
I live with my roommate Shannon who I met on the very first day of college at Georgia Tech. We were in the same dorm and have lived together on and off for the past six years. We live in glorious midtown Atlanta...almost back on Tech campus.
Birthday:
15 October
Professional Information:
Professional Philosophy:
Now, Love what you do. Later, be proud of what you’ve done.
Professional Goals:
I have been following the emerging discipline of designing for gestural/touch interfaces. I am a serious iPhone geek, and am constantly sketching out new applications or critiquing ones that I try out. In the short term, I would love to make some of these sketches a reality. In the long term, I would love to explore how gestural interfaces can facilitate more sustainable habits and the dematerialization of products.
How I Got Started in This Field:
By accident. A friend of a friend’s sister happened to be an hiring manager at the first consultancy I ended up with. I was doing user experience work within the world of product design, but did not realize that UX was a field in its own right. When I came upon the field by chance, I knew instantly that UX was a better fit.
Best Professional Book I've Ever Read:
- The Ecology of Commerce by Paul Hawken
- Cradle to Cradle by then architects William McDonough and Michael Braungart.
These are technically business/product design books, but speak to an underlying sentiment that should drive all own designs and progress. UX will play a major role in the adoption of sustainable practices and business models.
